The Self-Certification Program is part of VMware’s commitment to continually collaborate with and educate all customers on proper software asset management. The Self-Certification Program is an opportunity to review your installations and submit information to VMware to verify that your VMware license usage is accurate and in line with the VMware End User License Agreement available at https://www.vmware.com/download/eula.html.

There is a random selection process, and no particular action led to this. VMware's program conducts regular reviews of our end users and partners of all sizes and in different verticals, markets, and geographies.

This is required per section 4 of the VMware End User License Agreement found at https://www.vmware.com/download/eula.html. The Self-Certification Program will help you identify any gaps in your licensing and purchase any needed licenses.

When you click the “Get Started” link, you will be taken to a secure portal with some requests for information about your environment and some usage reports. You will be given clear instructions and will be able to upload data directly to the portal. Once you submit your data, our analysts will review and confirm with you that the data was complete or will contact you with any questions. You can also review the Online Deployment Report Guide for details about the submission requests.

As part of this program, the next step in the process is for the VMware team to reconcile your reported deployments to your entitlements based on our internal records. Once the information is reconciled, the team will contact you for any additional information or will close the review if there are no outstanding queries.

The completion of the data collection depends on the size and complexity of the customer’s VMware environment, but in general takes no more than 20 min. Please see Online Deployment Report Guide for detailed guidance on gathering the required information. The reconciliation process usually takes approximately three weeks after deployment details are submitted to VMware.

Only one individual needs to respond to the Self-Certification program. The response and data collection should be performed by the VMware System Administrator (or IT person with admin permissions).
